LOGAN — Songs For a New World is a song cycle written by Jason Robert Brown that depicts a number of scenarios involving people facing crossroads or changing points in their lives, and the lessons to be learned from these events. Different from a regular musical, the songs performed aren’t connected by scene work or by a plot line, but only by thematic elements. Each song depicts different characters, always labeled as simply “Man” or “Woman” with a different story to tell. The USU Opera Theatre presented this song cycle in the Morgan Theatre on campus April 8 and 9....Read More

OREM — The Frank Capra film It’s a Wonderful Life is an old classic that follows the story of George Bailey, a man of the people in his small town. George is a friend to all he meets, and the kind of everyday hero who often goes unsung. As the show opens and George is contemplating taking his own life after a business tragedy on Christmas Eve, he is visited by his very own guardian angel, Clarence, who shows him the course of his life again. Clarence does his best to convince George that suicide is not the best...Read More
WEST VALLEY CITY — Big Fish is an adventurous story full of every element a good writer could hope to include. Written by John August, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, the musical tells of love and heartbreak, triumph and failure, life and death. While it seems remarkable and outlandish that one story could contain so many pieces, outlandish tales seem to be the common theme in this show. Hale Centre Theatre in West Valley puts on a tremendous production that is fun for the whole family. The production staff and crew for this show have brought to life the...Read More
CENTERVILLE — The production of Aida at Centerpoint Legacy Theatre in Centerville is a refreshing delight, with plenty of heart and enough surprises to keep me on the edge of my seat. Aida is a show that requires dedication and ingenuity to pull off, and the cast, crew and staff at Centerpoint certainly pulled together a show that will be remembered. Aida is a tale of romance and war, written by Linda Wollverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang, and is a reminder of what is most important in life: love. The story follows the forbidden love story of Captain Radames, (played by Brock...Read More
PROVO — The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is an old ghost tale by Washington Irving with elements of spook and terror, but a feeling of jovial fun to lighten the mood for the younger crowd. The town of Sleepy Hollow is aptly named for the feeling that it bestows upon all who enter, except for one. Ichabod Crane, the new schoolmaster, has his nose in a book, but his head in the clouds. A man full of superstitions and nerves is a perfect target for the town jokester, Brom Bones, especially in a town as full of old haunts and...Read More
