SALT LAKE CITY — Upon entering the theatre to attend The Little Prince, I was met with warm, Edison-style light bulbs hanging from the ceiling and instrumental French music playing in the background. The shadows behind the backlit sheet moved to the music, already enchanting me. I enjoyed the mood that was set, paying tribute to the original French story that has now been translated into 300 languages and dialects. While I had heard of The Little Prince since childhood, I myself was unfamiliar with the story. I am delighted that Sackerson was my introduction to the beloved tale. Adapted...Read More

IVINS — Wrapping up the 2017 summer season, Tuacahn brings one of Broadway’s most popular and longest running musicals to the red rock canyon. With music and lyrics by Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, (members of the 70’s pop group, ABBA), Mamma Mia! chronicles the life of Donna, a middle-aged woman who owns a taverna and has worked hard her entire adult life to provide for her and her daughter, Sophie. As Sophie is about to be married, she sends wedding invitations to three men she thinks may be her father, Donna’s obvious past love interests. With an interesting though simple plot,...Read More
SALT LAKE CITY — A couple years ago when I was in New York City, I had the opportunity to see the critically acclaimed immersive theatrical experience Then She Fell. Ever since then I have been captivated by immersive theatre and jumped at the chance to see Sackerson’s production of Sonder, an immersive dance theatre piece. Written, directed, and choreographed by Graham Brown, Sonder focuses around a loose story line that follows four friends, Warner (played by Jordan Simmons), Charlie (Eliza Tappan), Pascal (Shawnee Jo Haycock), and Marco (Francisco Aviña). The piece explores themes of death, loneliness, and the human...Read More
Provo — BYU’s international theatre festival, Off The Map, now an annual tradition in its fourth year, continues to bring new and foreign work to the University’s Provo campus. I have taken advantage of this unique opportunity every year so far, and have yet to be disappointed. This year’s festival promises to live up to the success of the previous years, with selections from the U.K. and Australia. Every Brilliant Thing The first show of this year’s festival is Every Brilliant Thing, A Paines Plough and Pentabus Theatre Company production, based in England. This new play became a hit...Read More
Salt Lake City – “In here, life is beautiful.” The catchphrase of the Tony Award winning musical rang true as I was invited to my table by a couple of cabaret boys and given a drink. While interacting with the cast, with snacks and tea lights laid out before me, I was impressed with Utah Repertory Theater Company’s hospitality, and immediately felt immersed in the Kit Kat Club and ready to be entertained. Cabaret, with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff, takes place largely inside the sleazy Kit Kat Club in 1930’s...Read More
